EPA Announces Plans to Begin 31 Deregulatory Actions

The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently announced that it plans to undertake 31 deregulatory actions. The EPA press release can be viewed at https://www.epa.gov/newsreleases/epa-launches-biggest-deregulatory-action-us-history.
Several of these proposed actions could impact the waste and resource management industry, including:
- Reconsideration of mandatory Greenhouse Gas Reporting Program (GHG Reporting Program).
- Reconsideration of light-duty, medium-duty, and heavy-duty vehicle regulations
- Redirecting enforcement resources to EPA's core mission (Enforcement Discretion)
- Terminating Environmental Justice and DEI arms of the EPA
- Ending the "Good Neighbor Plan" which addresses interstate air pollution
- Working with states and tribes to resolve backlog of State Implementation Plans and Tribal Implementation Plans
- Reconstituting Science Advisory Board and Clean Air Scientific Advisory Committee
- Prioritizing coal ash program to expedite state permit reviews and update coal ash regulations
- Utilizing enforcement discretion to further North Carolina's recovery from Hurricane Helene
